Workshop: Youth civic engagement and environmental protection

Empowering Youth in Armenia: Civic Engagement & Climate Action
On April 18th, 2025, YIC NGO in Armenia hosted an online workshop as part of the EmpowerYouth project, bringing together 17 participants from 14 youth-focused organizations across different regions of Armenia—Lori, Shirak, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik.

The workshop aimed to strengthen youth civic engagement in climate action by introducing practical tools and sharing local experiences. Participants explored the EmpowerYouth learning kit and the Ecoville board game, learning how these resources can be used to support environmental education and active citizenship.

The workshop included an exchange of best practices, discussions on challenges in youth engagement, and collaborative planning for future initiatives. Key upcoming opportunities such as the capacity-building training, Bucharest Study Visit, and mentoring programme were presented.

We’re excited about the new connections established and look forward to continued collaboration with Armenian youth organizations on civic and environmental action.

About the project:
The EmpowerYouth project aims to support youth engagement through climate action- a topic that resonates strongly with young people and can serve as a catalyst for broader civic participation. Unfortunately, low youth engagement remains a challenge across both EU and non-EU countries, with limited dialogue between youth and decision-makers and low electoral participation, despite strong interest in issues like climate and the environment. To address this, the project seeks to strengthen youth civic engagement by building the capacity of at least 80 youth organizations in Romania, Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia, and by supporting local green initiatives.
Through non-formal learning, knowledge sharing, and partnerships with civil society and public authorities, the project equips young people with tools to influence public policies. By promoting cross-border cooperation, we aim to support EU and national efforts through innovative and transnational approaches aligned with the EU Youth Agenda.
