EU 4 Gender Equality programme
The EU4GE is a three-year Programme funded by the European Union and implemented jointly by UNFPA and UN Women at regional and national levels in six EAP countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. In Armenia the Programme is implemented by UNFPA Armenia in partnership with the Gyumri Youth Initiative Center NGO in Shirak, Lori and Tavush regions.
The overall objective of the Programme is to strengthen equal rights and opportunities for women and men through shifting social perceptions around gender roles, tackling gender stereotypes and increasing men’s participation in childcare and other domestic responsibilities.
The beneficiaries of the Programme are young men and women aged 18-40 from Shirak, Lori and Tavush regions: for young men and women, fathers and mothers.
In the framework of the Programme the activities carried out by Gyumri “Youth Initiative Center” NGO are the following:
- Establishing “Family Corners” in Shirak, Lori and Tavush regions.
- Organizing a two-month parenting school entitled “Caring for Equality” in cooperation with World Vision Armenia;
- Organizing “Father School” meetings and discussions aimed at promoting positive parenting, men’s participation in childcare, changing stereotypes about the roles of women and men.
- Organizing information campaigns and public events aimed at changing public perceptions of the roles of women and men, tackling stereotypes, raising the level of awareness of the general public.
- Organizing a study visit with stakeholder representatives to a country with a good experience in terms of promoting men’s engagement in antenatal care and experiencing the best practices with Papa Schools in order to adapt and implement the model later in Armenia.
