International Youth Day 2016
Օn the 12th of August Gyumri ‘’Youth Initiative Centre’’ NGO in cooperation with SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre implemented large-scale public events in Gyumri under the title ‘’Gyumri- Youth City 2016’’ dedicated to the International Youth Day.
The launch of the events was given with a cognitive meeting at Gyumri municipality. The participants of the EVS event and the representatives of SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre hosted in Gyumri were present at the meeting. During the meeting on the occasion of the International Youth Day the Mayor of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan awarded young people with certificates for their active and visible contribution in different fields in Gyumri.
The cognitive meeting was immediately followed by a press conference, which aimed at presenting the agenda of events dedicated to the International Youth Day to the Gyumri youth, organizations acting in Gyumri and the representatives of the media, as well as speaking about European Voluntary Service programme of the European Union and the opportunities the latter provides. The attendees had the opportunity to ask questions to the responsible people of the field, as well as to learn about successful experiences of former volunteers who had already returned to Armenia.
Later, in Rizhkov walking street, a youth expo-exhibition took place, which was attended by youth, cultural, educational and research organizations, centers and non-formal groups acting in the Shirak and Lori regions.
The series of events continued with a flash mob during which the words GYUMRI YOUTH, EVS and YIC were pictured in the Gyumri football stadium by around 200 young people and it was shot with an Aero camera.
The series of events dedicated to the International Youth Day ended with an open-air concert held in the Gyumri central square with the participation of the famous singer Arpi and the ‘’Hayway’’ pop-jaz band from Yerevan.
The event was supported by SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre, Café Nancy, Football Club Shirak, Design Boutique, 4D studio, Time production companies and Gyumri municipality.
