Counter and alternative narratives (CANs) combat hate speech by discrediting and deconstructing the narratives on which they are based while proposing (alternative) narratives based on human rights and democratic values, such as openness, respect for difference, freedom and equality. They do so by providing alternative and accurate information, by using appealing emotions on the issues involved, and by accounting to different perspectives and views.
THE PROJECT AIMS to equip those in contact with young public with the necessary skills firstly to help young people build up their resistance and critical thinking skills, so as not to become attracted by extremist and populist ideas, oppressive and hate-driven narratives.
THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- To identify the strategies to tackle hate speech, discrimination and hostility on the local, national and international levels
- To support youth workers with methods and techniques how to use “We CAN” manual in order to make it more accessible for using in youth field and to promote media literacy
- To develop creativity, critical thinking & proactive search for alternative solutions
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Participants should be at least 18 years old youth workers and educators who are working in the field of human rights education and are interested to further their knowledge and skills in this field. Selected participants are obliged to participate in the above mentioned local and international activities.
Working language is ENGLISH.
The Armenian team will consist of 2 participants.
Food and lodging is fully covered. The travel limit for Armenian participants in case of Georgia is 180 EUR and in case of Netherlands 530 EUR. Reimbursement will be done via bank transfers upon submitting the ticket receipts to the organizers.

The participation fee for YIC members and for participants nominated from institutions with agreement to YIC is 40 EUR.
